This policy explains what data Starboard (“we,” “us,” “our”) collects, how we use it, and what rights you have. We believe in keeping things simple and transparent.

1. Data We Collect

Account data

When you create an account, we collect your email address, name, and password. Your password is securely hashed — we never store it in plain text.

Testimonial data

When someone submits a testimonial through one of your collection forms, we collect the information they provide: their name, company, job title, testimonial text, star rating, and their chosen privacy preference (full name, initials, or anonymous). This data is submitted by third parties, not by us.

Usage data

We collect information about how you use Starboard, including pages visited, features used, and actions taken (such as creating forms or widgets). This helps us understand how to improve the product.

Cookies and tracking

We use the following cookies and tracking technologies:

• Essential cookies: Session and authentication cookies required for the platform to function.
• Analytics cookies: Google Analytics 4 (G-KNZ43NJ1H8) to understand traffic patterns and usage.
• Marketing cookies: Meta Pixel for advertising measurement, when active.

2. How We Use Your Data

• To provide the service: Storing your testimonials, rendering your widgets, managing your account.
• To process payments: Paid plans are processed through LemonSqueezy. We do not store your payment card details — LemonSqueezy handles all payment data.
• To send transactional emails: New testimonial notifications, account updates, and billing receipts.
• To improve the product: Analytics data helps us understand usage patterns and prioritize features.

3. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with the following third parties, and only as needed to operate the service:

• Google Analytics: Anonymized usage data for analytics.
• Meta (Facebook): Pixel data for advertising measurement.
• LemonSqueezy: Payment processing for paid plans.

Testimonial data is displayed publicly on your website only when you, as the account owner, approve it and embed a Starboard widget. Unapproved testimonials are never shown publicly.

4. Your Rights

Under GDPR and similar privacy laws, you have the following rights:

• Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• Correction: Request that we correct any inaccurate data.
• Deletion: Request that we delete your account and all associated data.
• Export: Request a machine-readable export of your data.
• Withdraw consent: You can withdraw consent for non-essential cookies at any time by clearing your browser cookies or contacting us.

5. Data Retention

• Account data: Kept until you delete your account.
• Testimonials: Kept until deleted by you (the account owner) or until your account is deleted.
• Analytics data: Retained per Google Analytics and Meta's own data retention policies.

When you delete your account, all your data — including testimonials, forms, and widgets — is permanently removed from our systems.

6. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and secure infrastructure. No system is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information to industry standards.

7. Children

Starboard is not intended for use by anyone under 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will notify you via email. The “last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
